"The daffodil flower symbolizes rebirth and new beginnings and is the perfect flower to gift to someone on New Years Eve. I hope whoever is reading this was able to spend their New Years Eve with someone special."

In short, Maybe This Time by Kasie West is about a high school senior named Sophie Evans who works for the local florist in her small town. She must attend almost all of the events put on in her town because of her job. Her best friend Micah is right by her side at those events because she caters for her father. Sophie feels trapped in her tiny town and dreams of attending fashion school in New York. Suddenly, Andrew Hart the son of a fancy new chef helping Micah's father is forced to work alongside Sophie. Andrew is a pain in Sophie's side and is constantly messing up her "perfect" life. Sophie must learn to embrace this change and give Andrew and her small town a chance to show they are worth it. In the beginning, I found the main character Sophie to be a little annoying. She was very uptight and particular about how things happened around her. For example, every time Andrew tried to compliment her she only viewed it as an insult. Sophie never liked to open about her feelings. She tried to pretend that everything was fine even when it was clearly not. Especially with family issues. Sophie's dad left her, her mom, and her brother in order to open up his own surf shop in California. She was still in contact though, and never called him out on what he did until later on in the book. Sophie also does not talk to her mother a lot. This is clearly shown during a game on Mothers Day where her mother is supposed to answer questions about Sophie and gets them all wrong. Sophie's character growth was great and it was amazing to see her go from being all clammed up to opening up and asking her friends for help. Overall, Sophie was not my favorite character but her continued growth intrigued me. On the other hand, Andrew was very confident and kind. He photographed all of the events Sophie was at and was always in a good mood. Sophie didn't initially try to get to know Andrew. She only viewed him as an arrogant and entitled pretty boy. As the story progressed Andrew continued to show Sophie his kind side. He cleaned her foot when she stepped on glass at a wedding, helped her bring some flower arrangements to a funeral, and looked for her lost brother in a corn maze. All of these kind acts helped Sophie warm up to him. I definitely liked Andrew more than Sophie because he was never fake and he was always willing to help Sophie, even though she initially hated him. At the New Years Eve party Sophie and Andrew decided they both liked each other and were willing to give the relationship thing a go. Both characters personalities balanced each other out. Andrew was easygoing and helped Sophie to open up. Sophie was serious and made Andrew view things in a different way. I recommend this book for an easy read that includes minimal drama. The happy ending really makes the book more enjoyable and its pretty cute. If you decide to read this book or have already read it leave a comment about what you think of the characters and it doesn't have to be about the main characters. Happy New Year!!!
