What's your club in That’s Not What I Heard? ~ Written by Maryam

In the spirit of April Fools ( I know I'm late) I wanted to share a rom-com with you that is so unbelievably funny. The book is titled That's Not What I Heard by Stephanie K Strohm. The story is set in a high school and gives an exaggerated overview of what happens when gossip goes awry. The two main characters Teddy Lin and Kim Landis-Lilley are widely known throughout their high school as the "perfect couple." So when they break up everyone is left wondering: What went wrong? Assumptions turn to facts as the news spreads and everyone begins to formulate their own stories about why the two broke up. The funny thing is: Teddy and Kim don't even know why they broke up. In a stunning turn of events, the students begin to take sides of who wronged who in the breakup. Even the teachers start to fight amongst themselves and do crazy things like assign the students who are on the opposing teams more homework. Not everyone at the highschool is so thrilled that all the attention is now focused on a high school relationship that doesn't even matter. In this way four unique clubs that each have their own ideas about the breakup are formed.

1. Teddy Bears
President: Sophie Maeby (she likes Teddy and wants to supports him in order to win over his heart)
Mission: Support Teddy Lin because he supposedly "broke up with Kim Landis-Lilley due to the fact that he is moving to Italy."
Achievements: Sold lots of teddy bear ear headbands, wrote a giant cement heart with the words Teddy Lin in the parking lot, got part of prom to be bear themed, started a food fight, etc.
Symbol: Teddy Bear ear headbands.

2. Team Kim
President: Jess Howard (she is Kim Landis-Lilley's best friend)
Mission: Support Kim Landis-Lilley because Teddy broke her heart and he doesn't even like her instagram posts.
Achievements: Put up posters that labeled Teddy Lin as a snake, shaved a member of the Teddy Bears head, got part of prom to be a fifties sock hop, etc.
Symbol: Any red article of clothing or accessory

3. Anti-KaTs
President: Olivia Landis-Lilley ( Kim Landis-Lilley's younger sister)
Mission: Do not support any of the of the other clubs and be very salty about the whole situation because highschool should not be about two seniors that just broke up.
Achievements: Convinced students to join the club and got part of prom to be nihilism themed.
Symbol: Button pins that say "Anti-KaT."

4. HeartBeats
President: Nico Osterman (he recently broke up with Sophie Maeby and is a total romantic)
Mission: Bring Teddy Lin and Kim Landis-Lilley back together.
Achievements: Got students to join the club and part of prom to be baseball themed because Teddy and Kim both love the sport and play it.
Symbol: Red felt hearts.

Everyone who has been to highschool knows that this would never happen if two random seniors broke up, however, it is still fun to imagine yourself attending this highschool as these events took place. Personally, I would be shocked that a break up could produce such crazy events, but I would also kind of enjoy this because it would give me something to laugh at. I would definitely join the HEARTBEATS. #HeartBeatforlife. I am a total romantic and love to see people in love. The book explains that Teddy and Kim were lifelong best friends and have a strong relationship. They are clearly meant to be together and the fact that they didn't even know why they broke up should be enough to prove my point. Even though their breakup made the book incredibly funny their relationship is still important. Also, who doesn't want to walk around with a cute red felt heart pinned to their shirt?? Now I will broche my question that started this whole post: What club would you join? You can leave a comment down below before or after you have read the book explaining what club you would be a part of and why. I would love to know the answer!

  1. I am a HeartBeat because if Teddy and Kim didn't even know why they broke up then I think they should just give their relationship it a second chance.
